Out Driving
The Drive That Moves You
A narrated journal from the open road. Short, cinematic stories about the places worth the drive, the people who live behind the wheel, and the freedom to go farther.
Welcome to Out Driving
A quick introduction to the show: the drives worth taking, the people worth riding along with, and the questions worth asking. New stories every couple of weeks. Press play, then follow wherever you listen.
Three ways down the same road.
One feed, three kinds of episode. However you like to travel, there is a way in.
Milestones
The things worth rating. Road trips, destinations, cars, and gear, judged by the Out Driving Milestone diamond and awarded sparingly.
Keepsakes
The company you keep. Conversations with the drivers, makers, and wanderers whose lives run on the road, and what each one leaves you with.
Postcards
The road, in your words. Listener stories and questions from wherever you are.
A note on the voice: the narrated essays use an AI version of Robert's own voice, so the writing stays unhurried and consistent. The interviews are his, in the room, unedited. It is still his voice either way, and we would rather say so.
The episodes.
A road trip, rated end to end
The season opener: a drive you can follow from the first mile to the last, with the diamond earned by the story, not a checklist.
A life spent behind the wheel
A conversation with someone whose living is the road, and the one thing they said that stays with you long after the drive home.
The car, and what it is like to live with
The diamond turned on a machine. Not a spec sheet, but the honest character of a car after the road has had its say.
Your best wrong turn
The first listener episode, built from the stories you send in. Tell us about the detour that turned out to be the whole trip.
More of Season One to come. New episodes every other week.
