We didn’t set out to build a driving school. We set out to hand people the keys to a life full of adventure.
For more than two decades, our founder taught driving at nearly every level imaginable, from nervous sixteen-year-olds to professional athletes, stunt drivers, and the federal agents trained to drive under real pressure. The through-line never changed. Driving done right isn't about fear or rote rules. It's about confidence, judgment, and the freedom that follows.
Out Driving takes everything learned over those miles and makes it available to everyone, online. The same instincts trusted in some of the highest-stakes driving environments there are, taught calmly, patiently, and built for the way people actually learn today.
Out Driving doesn’t stop there. The Out Driving Journal explores the culture of driving through road trips, vehicle reviews, thoughtful essays, travel stories, and the people and places that make life worth chasing. Together, our education and media share the same purpose: Freedom in progress.

“What began as an extraordinary childhood moment became a lifelong fascination with the responsibility, judgment, and freedom that driving represents.”
Robert's journey with driving began long before it became a career. At just nine years old, he found himself behind the wheel after his mother lost consciousness while driving on California's 405 Freeway. Safely bringing the vehicle to a stop thrust him into the national spotlight as the young boy who saved his mother's life.
Robert's passion for driving eventually led him into law enforcement, where he became a police officer in Bozeman, Montana. The mountain roads taught him what driving could give us. The job taught him what it could take away. Together, they shaped the philosophy behind Out Driving: protect the freedom to keep exploring.
Years later, Robert founded NEVO Driving Academy, an award-winning behind-the-wheel school for teens that grew into something bigger, training professional athletes, stunt drivers, and high-performance clients who shared his obsession with precision, progress, and adventure.
In 2019, he began serving as a Security Driver Training Instructor for the U.S. Department of State, where he redesigned the training curricula to modernize how special agents and the foreign affairs community learn to drive under pressure. His leadership at the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center advanced instructor development and earned FLETA accreditation, a benchmark of excellence in federal training.
In 2024, Robert began planning the next adventure, carrying the passion, purpose, and experience shaped by every mile of his journey. That became Out Driving.
